I had a very productive meeting with my case manager at my acupuncture appointment last week. We discussed my current Dr, who happens to be a gyn, and the feelings that come with restarting treatments. With that being said, I took him up on his suggestions for a new RE. I set up an appointment for Wed afternoon. The best part is that this RE said he could help me "finance" my cycle, since I only have diagnostic coverage. I am nervous and excited at the same time. :) So if all goes as planned, we will have IUI#4 at the end of the month.
My hubs and I have been trying to diet and exercise together in hopes that it will help us get healthier. I have decided to join a fellow friend on the South Beach Diet. I've read this diet is difficult in Phase 1, but very benefical to PCOS girls. We shall see. :)

Hi everyone
This is my first time ever blogging, so please bear with me! I also tend to write very long posts, I'll try to get better at that! My name is Chasity and a little younger than the average woman trying to concieve with PCOS. I'm only 23, but don't worry I've had more than my fair share of life experiences (good and bad) and had to be in the "real world" long before most people do.
My husband and I got married almost 4 and half years ago, and every day is more amazing than the day before. We started trying to concieve right away. I was very baby crazy and so we just decided that if the Lord blessed us with a child, He'd make a way for it all. We were working and going to college at the same time, but weren't having money problems. I grew up very poor, on government assitance, and learned how to stretch a dollar, so we werent' concerned about things like that. My periods had always been irregular, but I never thought something was wrong until year one went by and no baby. By then, I knew something must be wrong but didn't really want to know. I figured as long as it wasn't life threatening, it would be fine, I was still young and plenty of time to have a baby. I did some research and realized that I had nearly all the PCOS symptoms. This contributed to me not being terribly worried about it, I figured I'd deal with that when I had more time! Around two and a half years after getting married my periods changed drastically. They were crazy heavy and I bled for three weeks straight, and that's when I decided I needed help! I continued to bleed for about six weeks until I got in with my Ob/gyn and was put on birth control. I had quit school for about a year because I was unsure of my major and flat out didn't like the school but found transferring very difficult due to general education requirement differences. So we decided to stay on birth control for a year while I finished school in order to manage my periods and because we didn't want to go through with infertility treatments while in school. In June 2008 we went off birth control and we decided to try by ourselves for six months before going through treatments. I wish I would have known that it would take several months before treatment would even start! We called and set up an appointment at the end of December 2008, didn't get in until Februray 2009. My blood work in February showed that I have hypothyroidism and my ultrasound showed the many cysts common with PCOS, thank goodness I don't have insulin resistance (yet). We will be starting Clomid in May, after trying to trigger ovulation in March and April by getting my thyroid level correct. Wish us luck!
I know Nina really wanted to talk about the diet and excercise difficulties of PCOS and I agree, I need help!!! In six years since high school graduation, I have gained 100 pounds! I look at those pictures and can't believe I ever thought I was fat. I was 5'2" and 125 pounds (so technically overweight) but looked rail thin! I guess I carry my weight well, but still, I need so much help! By December 2004 I had gained 30 pounds, but I had chalked it up to the "Freshman 15" and the "Newlywed 10" combined. In January 2008 I hit 200 pounds and immediately signed up for Weight Watchers Online, which helped. I lost about 10 pounds the first month and by April I had lost 18. It probably would have been more, but I was really sick with reoccuring bladder infections and focusing on graduating. I traveled to China for 3 weeks for a school trip in May-June and stopeed WW then. WW was impossible in China, but when I got back I stuck to most of what I learned, but still gained all my weight back, plus 10 pounds. Then I essentially gave up. I have to admit, I'm such a sucker for sugar! I work in the food industry, appearantly that college degree doesn't mean much in the middle of a recession, and I have very unhealthy food at my disposal 24/7! And so I'm at 228 right now. But I've finally reached that point where I am so disgusted I am taking control of my body again. I've been annoyed by the lack of starting IF medications these last couple of months and it really feels like what I eat is about the only thing I have full control over. I also plan on joining a gym this summer, probably Curves. I like it becuase it costs the same as the other gym options I've looked at, but not only is it only women, but it's a circuit system and so you know you're working out for the correct amount of times/reps etc. Kind of like having a personal trainer but without the cost! I may also go back on WW, but I will definitely be downloading more recipes this time and purchasing their calculator that you can use at home or when you're away from your computer.
I thought I'd share this new twist on a salad. One of the few things we offer that is healthy at my work is called a Veggie Wrap. I never tried one until about 3 weeks ago, and I'm hooked. I actually don't like lettuce that much, but I love veggie toppings on salads, so this is perfect for me. I even put in sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower, which I normally wouldn't eat.
Ingredients:
12 inch tortilla (whole wheat would be even healthier)
1/2 cup of lettuce (I don't actually measure, just eyeball)
Assorted veggies (I use broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, sprouts, mushrooms, green pepper, onion, cucumber- really anything that you would put on a salad)
1 tablespoon of salad dressing (I love this spicy honey mustard we have, but vinagrette is also good)
Directions:
Put lettuce on tortilla width wise, near the end closest to you, leaving about 1/2 of tortilla between the edge and the lettuce. Finely chop (or use a food processor) the veggies. This is important, if you don't chop them small enough they will be too bulky for the tortilla, it won't roll right and you will rip the tortilla. An ideal amount would be small enough to fit in 1/2 cup, so start with less of each and then work up. Put this directly on top of the lettuce, not next to it. Add salad dressing. Fold the sides in and hold with one hand, while you fold the small flap on the end over the lettuce. Roll snuggly, folding the sides as needed. Cut in half. Now you have a salad that is more packed with veggies (though probably less lettuce) and you get a little bit of each flavor in every bite!

Hi Everyone
I guess it is my turn to introduce myself. I am Katie and am 27.
Tim and I will be married 5 years this June and while we did TTA for a year when we first got married, I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago and ever since we have been trying. It has only been the last 2 years that we have been using medical intervention, but we have yet to have any success. This can be a difficult and trying time for anyone, but having to deal with infertility can hard for everyone.
We need each other for support and encouragement. To pick us up when we fall and hold us up when it is time to celebrate.

Getting Started
First of all, thanks for being a part of this blog! I think I should start by introducing myself.
My name is Nina and I was officially diagnosed with PCOS in March of 2006, after years of suspicion. I'm 29 years old (as of last week), born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, moved to Austin in 2004 to be with my then boyfriend, now husband. :) We've been ttc for almost 4 years. After endless amounts of failed treatments, we decided to try acupuncture and herbs. Although the acupuncture has done wonders for my stress levels, I have yet to see any real change in my non-existent cycle. With that being said I have started to work out and diet in hopes it will regulate my period.
What I'm looking for from this blog?
I'd like to share my experiences with other women dealing with pcos, and share ideas for a healthy lifestyle.
I've never blogged before so this will be a new experience for me. :)
